The Pair Plus wager operates entirely independently of the dealer. Land a pair or better on your own three cards and it pays out regardless of the outcome of your main ante and play bet.

Anyone treating Pair Plus as part of their main strategy should recognise it is unaffected by the fold-or-play decision, so the two bets need thinking about separately rather than as a combined position. As with most side bets, it is optional and the main game stands perfectly well without it.
